We had a very nice demolition day. It may have been the hottest day of the year - but a clear blue sky - no wind - and low relative humidity made it a nice day to watch work. Lulu had a busy day on campus - so she took her Vespa. She can park right by her door with that - secretly I think she was afraid of what came next.
At 10 AM the loader arrived on a flat bed. One man drove the truck - one man operated the loader. The slowest part was waiting for the truck to return for another load.
I am writing this at 9 AM Tuesday - already they took another load to debris away. I am guessing we will have a clear lot by the end of the day.
Goldilocks had to go to work at 9 AM
One man and one machine
At 10 AM - it was all peaceful at 1816 Seminole Drive
Then it started taking big bites
It saved several azalea bushes out front
The car port went down in one big chunk
Separating debris - clean fill and dirty fill
He used the bedrooms like a coal bin to store the dirty fill
This is looking south from the present driveway
The loader has caterpillar treads that dig up grass
The pile of concrete gets turned into new paving
The bedrooms at the eft are filled with shingles - boards - insulation - dry wall
Surprisingly little dirt - dust - noise
Waiting for the truck provided time for a breather
Large piles of the con rete slab
Clean fill left - dirty fill right
We saved quite a few bushes and trees
A pretty blue sky was the only one watching - no gawkers showed up
That scoop must have held 3 tons
He could pick up one board at a time
Funny - the back door is still intact
The roof was made of pine boards
Very little dust
The main walls were thick brick - then 2 x 2 studs - then drywall
It took two hours to knock down
He piled the debris in the bedrooms
The red brick rank or clinked as they were moved
The car port made the house look bigger than it was
The house was 50 x 35 - with the car port 75 x 35
